My VPN has, in the past seven days, blocked nearly 40,000 tracking attempts by data miners embedded in the BBC News app on my Android phone. Forty thousand, and I'm paying for the data throughput.

I think the only complaint I have with the way it works on mobile is that the app tracking is done by creating an artificial VPN so all network traffic goes through the DuckDuckGo app for the detection to occur. Which means as far as I can tell, that you cannot then also use a VPN to route your traffic through a 'private' network such as using the @protonvpn. Which I would definitely prefer to do also.

This is mental - tracking from just four news apps: #Reuters #Euronews #Guardian #BBC.
If this concerns you, and it should, install the #DuckDuckGo browser, and within its settings activate the app tracking block. This routes all your app data through a VPN which can be set to run in the background at all times. Don't rely on using blockers in your default browser; it's the apps you have to worry about most.

Frequently The #Bible #app for #Android (from lifechurch.tv) is reported by #DuckDuckGo #appTracking protection as one of the worst offenders for trying to track me on my phone. Over 800 attempts yesterday alone (compared to 400 from #Pandora & 24 from #stitcher). Anyone know why they are trying so hard?
