The "troubled" son of the Oklahoma bomber? If that is the #APStyle guide, that's fine. It's meant to convey some compassion for the accused. But the AP should do it in every story about a person accused of crimes who have had a difficult past. It's commonly written "zip code," and dictionary entries reflect this. The Associated Press Stylebook and the U.S. Postal Service still capitalize ZIP, and USPS capitalizes Code.
