While the #AQI here is only about 60 at the moment, the primary pollutant is PM2.5. There’s a wildfire in Northern California and Oregon and the smoke has made its way over the Sierra to us.

We’ve been lucky this year. Previously, we’ve been blanketed in smoke and ash for months on end, breaking the AQI and forcing it to above 500.

#ClimateChange will make the western US uninhabitable in time through the combination of drought, heat, and fire. That’s part of why we’re leaving.

#AirQuality is deteriorating in the #BayArea because northerly winds are pushing smoke from #wildfires in Northern California and Oregon southwards.

Time to turn on your HEPA air filters and protect your lungs with #facemasks. #AQI #fireSeason

Got a loaner of a Piera Systems Canaree I5 air quality monitor and there's a pattern for the past few days. PM2.5 rises during the day and then drops off. A little while ago it was 77 (yellow) and then dropped as low as 13 (very green). Its connected to my PC on the Upper West Side of #nyc

We really need a solution for getting fresh air into homes during wildfires when there is no air conditioning. My co2 is at 1343 ppm, and I can’t let in outdoor air. As far as I’ve searched there’s no solution to this but waiting. Miserable.

When I wake up I can hear when it’s a poor air quality day. (Maybe a better word to use is “sense” it, but the way I experience the sensing is audible.)

It sounds like a snow day except quieter, since on a snow day the silence “sparkles” a little bit. On wildfire smoke air quality days it’s just silent.

Intellectually I can reason out what I might be picking up on — but whatever it actually is (or isn’t), mornings like this bring out my WTF for climate change deniers.

During the last two years we have traveled nearby via car, for storm watching and smoke season to Washington state’s Pacific coast at #Quileute Oceanside Resort. Monday we took our #EV charging in 20 minutes in Port Angeles: the #airquality #AQI was in the green every day but Thursday. Here are my handpainted travel sneakers in PA, using fluid #acrylics incl interference, with fabric medium at 1:1 ratio, let dry >24 hours, then heat set with a hair dryer 15 min.

Yes, I am the weird neighbor who not only runs their dogs with an electric trike before the UV index gets too high (well, and the temps, lately), but checks the #AQI before outdoor exertion and wears a mask when that’s over 50. Everyone needs a personal air quality monitoring device that’s portable for vehicles and outside. You would not believe how much pollution comes into cars even with air on recirculate. I have an air purifier for 250 sq ft in my car and it’s still not enough so I carry a P100 respirator plus extra filter replacements for the air purifier jic. We need respirators that handle particulates and fumes (organic pollution) with wildfire smoke, it’s much more than particulates. #AQI #WildFireSmoke
