So how odd is it that today there are sects who identify as Sunni, but blatantly go against the Aqidah of at-Tahawi??

The most famous statement of what Muslims believe is the Aqidah of Imam at-Tahawi, written in the 3rd Hijri century. What really set it apart from earlier works of Aqidah is that it only included beliefs that were unanimously agreed upon by all Sunni scholars.
