In this 4th c. marble epitaph from #Aquileia, the #HolySpirit appears as a dove in a circle of stars from which the waters of baptism flow onto a figure standing in a baptismal font.

The Latin inscription reads: "To an innocent spirit whom the Lord chose. The faithful one rests in peace. 10 days before the kalends of September."

Happy #NewYear and happy #MosaicMonday. And after a rather eventful break I found myself very much reminded of one of my personal favourites from the Basilica in #Aquileia. A bowl of #snails about to become escargot (although it is not clear if the Romans used butter other than for medicinal purposes), but two of them have clearly other plans.
