Eine gute Lösung fand im Laufe der Jahrmillionen die Ackerschmalwand #Arabidopsis. Weil sie nebenbei das wichtigste Modellsystem der Pflanzengenetiker ist, ist sie auch die erste Pflanze, deren simpel-genialer biologischer Kalender enträtselt wurde. Der Kreuzblütler blüht nur an den langen Tagen des frühen Sommers, am besten wenn es etwa 16 Stunden hell und acht Stunden dunkel ist. Doch wie erkennt die Blume die Jahreszeit?
