Ah, I get that, and I do understand that binary compatibility != kernel compatibility, which is what's really needed for Wayland to work without a lot of porting work.
Is #Arcan ever going to be used as a display server? I'm still not clear on what it actually *is*, but I've heard some folks in the #OpenBSD world are kinda excited about it.
@publicvoit I've had the same concerns about #Wayland - lack of #Xorg x-forwarding is unattractive to me.
After some research on the problem, I found Waypipe provides similar functionality for Wayland: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mstoeckl/waypipe
As an aside, I really hope #Arcan gains more traction. It has it's own take on networked GUI that reminds me of #Plan9. Seems like a better evolutionary path for the Linux desktop, IMHO. Also, it's in Nixpkgs! https://github.com/letoram/arcan
Ah, yes. #Arcan. Thanks for remembering that for me ^___^
The "good" thing about X11 is that it can fall back to older protocols if the new whizbang features don't work. That's basically (afaik/iirc) how X11 maintains "network transparency," today by falling back to the oldest, gnarliest standard, since things like DRM/Xrandr/whatnot have no network transparency.
But I've probably already said more than I know. XD
Other than #Arcan / #ArcanFE, is there any other #OpenSource or #FreeSoftware project that still even attempts to support merging the display of multiple clustered computers?

I'm learning to use the #arcan graphics frontend with #durden window manager.
It is in the repos of some Linux distros and FreeBSD. The problem is it's usage is advanced and the documentation is bit confusing for a new user. I want to tackle and learn the arcan system so I can make some content about it and make it easier for others to get started with it.
