@mgladdish @adamgreenfield It's an idea subject to much speculation and several hoaxes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archaeoa; itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl/langua. I can't find any good evidence that anyone has successfully recovered sounds recorded in ancient pottery.

There is technology that can recover sounds from fragile wax cylinders by scanning them, but I don't believe it's been used on pottery: newyorker.com/magazine/2014/05
