in Norway found an arrow that was likely trapped in ice for 4,000 years

by Dustin Jones, September 6, 2023

"Archeologists in Norway discovered an arrow shaft that appears to be from the , meaning it is approximately 4,000 years old.

"The discovery was made on the side of , which stands at just over 6,500 feet in Norway's Lom Municipality. Archeologists had found arrows from the Iron and Middle ages when they last surveyed the area in 2017. However, this arrow shaft was found after ice at the site melted away in recent years, according to Lars Holger Pilø, co-director Secrets of the Ice, part of Norway's Department of Cultural Heritage.

"He said the discovery predates earlier finds by more than 2,000 years, which adds a lot more "time depth" to the site. Researchers can determine the age of the artifact by its shape, but will submit a sample of the wood for carbon dating once the field season is over."

I've been engaging in some digital work with Dig Ventures out of the UK, and am trying to find something similar closer to home in . I'm coming up blank, but can't tell if this is due to using incorrect keywords or if there really is no public engagement of work in the province. Throwing it out to the Fediverse, does anyone know if there is any sort of program that public individuals can participate in here?

“Burned House” Mystery: Why Did This Torch Its Own Homes Every 60 Years?

The arsons were no accident, evidence suggests.
Between 5500 and 2750 BC, the present-day countries of Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine were populated by a loosely affiliated group of people known as the Cucuteni-Trypillia culture. Although not nearly as well-known as the Sumerians of neighboring Mesopotamia, the Cucuteni-Trypillia culture is just as significant.
