A wonderful bit of playing and singing by Peter Pringle. From the video description:
"THE EXALTATION OF #INANNA was written in #Sumerian by the daughter of Sargon The Great, the High Priestess of Inanna in the city of #Ur, a woman by the name of #Enheduanna. What you hear in this video, are the first twelve lines of the EXALTATION, sung in Sumerian, and accompanied on a scale #replica of the remarkable “Gold #Lyre of Ur”, discovered in the 1920’s by British archaeologist Sir Leonard Woolley.
Enheduanna was born more than 4,000 years ago, and she is the first named author of a literary work that we know of. Her writings and her history are well documented on the internet, and if you are interested in learning more about her, I refer you to a wonderful website called “enheduana ‘dot’ net”."
The description also talks a bit more about the lyre, exaltation, and his approach. #music #AncientMusic #archaeomusicology #musodons #histodons

An interesting video started on the question: "Did #Ancient #Greek #music come from #Japan?"
Of course NOT!!! But it does touch on a really important trap that a lot of people fall into: hierarchical and linear thinking. And, Farya does a great job of explaining this fallacy, and the (ugh!) #musical evolutionism that underlines it. Since this is one of my regular rant subjects and 328%-confirmed pet peeves, I'm letting someone else do the talking for a change.

At the end of July I posted an article on my blog; a personal #research project along the lines of #archaeology and #archaeomusicology, about the #GalloRoman #PanFlute, which unfortunately are really rather obscure. I explored the #instrument and tried to glean glimpses of their significance in the #culture and #religion.
