A mini pilaster dividing two close doorways on Park Road in the Woodlands area of Glasgow. There's no need for it whatsoever but it's little details like this that really make a building.

The Green Man on a building on Lancaster Terrace in Glasgow.

Representing spring and rebirth, the Green Man appears on a surprisingly large number of buildings in Glasgow, but this foliate version is the best representation of him I've so far found in the city.

Lion's head railings outside the former Trinity College building in the west end of Glasgow. This building dates from 1856 and was designed by Charles Wilson. I love the radial symmetry of this ironwok.

Absolutely love these heads on Langside Halls in Glasgow, scuplted by John Thomas in the mid-1800s. They represent the spirits of four of the great rivers of Britain (the Clyde, the Thames, the Tweed and the Humber). There is also a fifth one representing the Severn, which is not included here.

The Green Man, a mythological figure who is a symbol of rebirth and spring, over a tenement doorway on Spean Street in Cathcart, Glasgow.

While not common, similar representations of The Green Man can be found on other Glasgow buildings.

Functional, but beautifully tiled, arched doorway in the old Partick Fire Station on Beith Street, Glasgow.

I love the fact that this feature was kept, unaltered, when this building was turned into residential flats.

Some of the sculptures on Glasgow buildings are relatively self-explanatory. Others, like this one on the former Sothern Fire Station which appears to be of a half-naked bearded man wrestling an alligator, just leave you wondering what on Earth's going on!

Today's animal from Glasgow's architecture is an absolute cracker. It's one of the four Hippocampuses (Hippocampi?) above the Clyde Street entrance to the former fish market, which was build in 1873. These sculptures are always an absolute joy to see whenever I pass by.
