Sir Thomas Drew’s engravings from the Irish Builder, 01.05.1888. Enjoyed sketching in Selby Abbey this morning with Urban Sketchers Yorkshire. Couldn’t figure the perspective. The east end seemed to be at a different angle to the nave. Later found an old plan online. The whole east end is at a slightly different angle to the nave. Still a beautiful building.

Been meaning to draw the Tower Works chimneys for ages. I put them together in a picture. The smallest and youngest is called The Little Chimney, and is based on typical Tuscan towers. The middle is the Verona Tower, based on a tower in, you guessed it, Verona. The tallest, the Giotto Tower is based on the Florence Duomo tower. It is incredible to think Giotto Tower was just the chimney for a Holbeck pin factory. #leeds #drawing #architecturaldrawing #urbanskectching #urbansketchers
