📷 Casa Azul / Chalet Do Conde, Portugal

Upper floor room of an abandoned house, with beautiful molded plasterwork on the ceiling. The circular features had symbols, which was an pretty interesting feature!

Abandoned in 🇬🇧

I climbed up behind the very tall altar, balancing on an old radiator and onto the narrow window ledge. This gave a very interesting vantage point to shoot my photos from, while balancing and shooting over the top of the altar.

Kinda looks like I am hovering several metres of the floor though, guess it offers a different perspective 🤣

The cenellated roofline of the west wing of Gartnavel Royal Hospital in the west end of Glasgow. Built in the 1830s in the Gothic Revival Style to a design by Charles Wilson.

The wonderful Savings Bank of Glasgow building in Anderston in Glasgow. Designed in 1900 by Salmon, Son and Gillespie, this Art Nouveau gem is hidden away in a part of Glasgow where few visitors ever venture. Yet, by only sticking to the regular tourist haunts, they are missing out on some truly amazing architecture.

Mermaid relief sculpture on the entrance to the old Fairfield Shipyard on Govan Road. Dating from 1890, the sculpture is by McGilvray & Ferris. This is actually one of a pair of mermaids (one on either side).

I wonder how many other mermaids there are on Glasgow's architecture that I've yet to find?

How's this for a top floor corner bay window in a tenement building?

I love all the curves and the wind vane on the top of the dome.

Lanarkshire Regimental Drill Hall, Jardine Street, Glasgow.

Designed by Robert Alexander Bryden and built in 1894, its Tudor styling makes this quite an unusual (but by no means unique) building for Glasgow.

The imposing, fortress-like, and quite unique-looking, Whiteinch Lesser Burgh Hall, Whiteinch, Glasgow.

Built in the Scottish Renaissance style in 1894, it has lain empty and abandoned since 2002, and despite being B-listed is considered at risk of being lost.

Another animal in Glasgow's architecture, this time it's a seahorse being ridden by a sea nymph which is above the door of 200 St Vincent Street. I absolutely love this and all the other sculptures on the front of this building.

Another great example of how to sympathetically fill in the gap left by the demolition of a tenement building. This one comes from Novar Drive in the west end of Glasgow and was built in the mid-1990s.

I've been going to Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow since I was a kid, but I only noticed these wonderfully ornate cast iron vent covers for the first time the other day.

It just goes to show that Glasgow always has something new to offer, no matter how well you think you know it!

The Old Glasgow High School building, Elmbank Street, Glasgow.

While the building itself dates from 1846, the sculptures date from 1880. They are by John Mossman and are of, from left to right, Homer, Cicero, Galileo and James Watt.

The Owl on the Staircase, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.

I love this little owl which stands guard on the handrails of one of the staircases. It always reminds me of the work of Francois Pompon, one of my favourite sculptors.
