I'm now going for sheltered rural Highland glens seeing -14/16c degrees. Much of Highland Scotland seeing -10c degrees, but my Towns & Cities are still hovering about -4/6c degrees

Was out at the house at dawn this morning to capture this. It was -40 with the windchill and I could only stand to be outside my car for a few minutes. What you are seeing is called "sea smoke" and it's a rare phenomenon that happens when the air temperature is so much colder than the water that steam forms on the surface. I live about 5 minutes from the ocean and I've only seen sea smoke like this a few times in my lifetime. Absolutely amazing! #arcticblast #NikonZ9

The winds have started to subside & it’s warming up a bit to 6°F with only a windchill of -12°F. I say “only” because last night was wicked cold at -34° windchill & the winds were howling. We lost electricity for a bit & I panicked bc we lose heat when we lose electricity. Thankfully it came back on pretty quickly. Also need to give props to the guys who built my fence b/c after those winds last night, it’s still standing. #ArcticBlast #Weather #Windchill #Massachusetts #Canton

So cold downstairs that I literally wore a parka on top of my thick fuzzy bathrobe in order to get a little work done in my home office. But the chill was killing my mouse’s battery life, so I finished up extra quickly and ran upstairs, where heat rises, to nestle in bed again with cats gamboling about me.

New England is currently getting assaulted with an arctic blast. The Mount Washington Weather Observatory is reporting some truly unreal and life-threatening conditions. At this point it's probably colder than Antarctica.

Left the house this morning when it was still above 0ºF (with a feels like of -9) to check on the sheep. I was only outside for 15 mins while I gave them more hay and some grains and checked to see if their water was still running (it is!); by the time I was done I could barely feel my fingers. Is anyone else slightly concerned that these 50 degree temperature swings that we are seeing with the #ArcticBlast into the US might translate into widespread crop failures if the same were to happen during the growing season? Is there a good scientific reason that could not happen?

For example 50F > 0F temp swing translates to 70F > 20F when it is warmer.

Perhaps the past few years events have me considering any possible doomy scenario?
