Part of ham radio IP networking's strength is the ability to stream video from cams. Because nobody wants to watch a cam where nothing's happening, we grab screenshots and update them every few minutes.

#aredn Don't upgrade any Mikrotik ac3's to the latest nightly build. A subtle issue was found that will keep it from working properly after a power-cycle.
#aredn AREDN Release 23.8.0 is now available
There have been over 70 nightly releases of the AREDN codebase since the last production release in April of 2023. Info here: https://www.arednmesh.org/
Go forth and upgrade!
Precisely why we need to get behind #AREDN. Even if a given node doesn't desire to provide links for voice traffic, the same backbone can move APRS & NTS traffic & provide the ability for system admins to remotely control their nodes. Plus, it makes use of our *extensive* microwave allocations.

@N3VEM #AREDN has real potential, I think. For one, it has the ability to link D-STAR and YSF repeaters over amateur radio rather than commodity internet. You know, an *actual* backup system ...
Go for it, I say, knowing I don't have to do any of the work! π

AREDN Nightly build 20230719 has been designated as the second release candidate for the upcoming production release.
If no flaming issues are uncovered in the next few weeks, the production release will be made available.
#aredn - not specific to AREDN, but in testing Mimosa 10 GHz gear (moved into the ham portion of the band) for backbone use, we're getting about 600 Mbits/second each way (full-duplex) over a 40+ mile link. Gear's NOT cheap, though... ARDC grant FTW :-D
The AREDN team has decided that the current nightly build, 20230626, will be the first release candidate (RC1) for the upcoming production release of the AREDN software.
They encourage you to download it, and test it on your devices.
The 3.23.4.0 firmware added support for a whole new line of WiFi AC hardware for AREDN nodes. Check out this list of supported gear! #AREDN #MESH https://kit.co/k2exe/new-aredn-supported-nodes-2023
I'm most excited to potentially replace the AR750 in my cyberdeck with something that has external antennas like the HAP ac^3
#aredn iperf3 throughput test through two high quality 802.11ac links: ~16Mbits/sec. Short links, but still...I'll take it :-)
#aredn My presentation is on the Hamvention schedule now. Saturday at 4 pm π

There have been over 140 nightly releases of the AREDN codebase since the last production release in December 2022. The article on the main page of the AREDN website (https://www.arednmesh.org/) outlines what's been added and changed in 3.23.40, and includes some important notes. Make sure you read them prior to doing anything with this release.
Lots of good stuff in this release!
