Arete originally means excellence, describing the ideal of incorporate an idea into substance or soul. A knife can have good arete, the idea of a knife is to cut, therefore a tool which incorporates the idea of cutting in excellence into its substance is a knife possessing arete.

Not sure why I do this to myself. I had no intention of coding multi-player into the game until it was released for solo play. Yet here I am looking at all multi-play possibilities and tinkering. I still might release as solo-only but figured I should at least investigate.

Another advantage in working digital. I can now set the computer to play itself as many games I want to test and spit out the results.
Obviously no substitute for playtesting but makes it so much easier to assess a scenario's army strengths and balance.

Realized I never did an intro so here goes:
I'm a long time board gamer who suddenly became very interested in #wargames several years ago.
During the pandemic (2021), I decided to use combine my design/illustration background with my interest in coding to make a digital #HexAndCounter game based on the battles of #AlexanderTheGreat, which is tentatively title #Arete I hope to release next year.

The idea of #Paideia comes from the ancient #pagan #hellenic culture and aims to unfold the human potential to become #aristocratic in the original Greek meaning of becoming the very best of your self. The concept tries to gain #arete, often mistranslated as virtue but meaning rather "excellence", of the human potential. That means to embody the idea of a healthy, just, creative and good being to uphold the idea of human nature in the meaning the ancient #greek had.
