The last of the four buildings which make up the short, but interesting, run of historic buiildings between 104 and 132 Argyle Street in Glasgow.
This one dates from somewhere around the second half of the 1800s. It's easily overlooked, but is nonetheless with its classical line, its rather stunning in its own way.

The Titans of Argyle Street.
Standing, heads bowed and arms crossed, this pair of Atlantes have been stoically holding up the building at 146 Argyle Street in Glasgow since 1903, but in all that time they've worked their way into the hearts of many of the city's residents, especially its younger ones.

Renaissance style warehouse built in 1973 and designed by William Spence. This is part of a run of four very different, but all equally impressive, buildings on Argyle Street in Central Glasgow ranging in date from the 1700s to the 1920s.
Seeing such great buildings from very different periods in Glasgow's history all standing shoulder to shoulder is, for me, one of the joys of the city's architecture.

This building on Argyle Street in Glasgow has a bit of an interesting history.
Originally built in the 1700s as a tenement, it was remodelled in the 1890s by the architect David Barclay for Mrs Cranston to house luncheon, tea and games rooms as well as a central store for her other properties.
The interior decoration was provided by George Walton with details by Charles Rennie MacKintosh.

Horatio K. Bromhead's rather magnificent Free Classical warehouse on the corner of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street in Glasgow. I especially like the pair of granite Atlantes carrying a balcony over the door in the middle of its facade.

The former Burton's Menswear Store on Argyle Street in Glasgow.
Established by Montague Burton in the 1903, by the 1920s, Burton's had become so successful that it had 400 stores as well as its own factories and mills, and even employed its own in-house architect (Harry Wilson) to build its distinctive and impressive 'Modern Temples of Commerce' style stores. This particular store was built in 1929.

I don't know why, but despite being built in 1869, there appears to be a sculpture of Santa's Little Helper from the Simpsons on The Buttery on Argyle Street in Glasgow!

This is not the only design of boot scraper to be found in Glasgow, and more up-market buildings tended to have much more fancy free-standing boot scrapers, like this one from the nearby Park Circus area.

I've seen these small holes near the ground at the entrances to tenement closes in Glasgow for years, but only recently found what they are for.
They were there to house simple metal boot scrapers, and you can just see the remains of one here in this picture from a close on Argyle Street.

The Argyle Street Ash Tree, Finnieston, Glasgow.
This tree was accidently planted in 1850. This means it has been a feature of the west end of Glasgow for longer than the Kelvin Hall (1927), the Kelvingrove Art Gallery (1901), Glagsow University (which moved to its current location in 1870), and even Kelvingrove Park (1852).
