Is the Met Police actually changing? Or are we turning into a gun toting police service not for the purpose of protecting the public and citizens but for their own purposes?
Cousins & Carrick served with the armed parliamentary and diplomatic protection command. As a UK-US dual national, I go to the US Embassy on occasion to renew passports. The armed officers on British soil carry conspicuously. After Cousins, I went to renew my son's passport. I saw the men with guns, gritted teeth, thought OK, bad apple. Now I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM. One might have been careless. Two is culture. #MetPoliceUK #ArmedPolice
Should all Gardaí be armed as the police forces in other countries are? When they were established DURING THE CIVIL WAR, Michael Staines, the first commissioner, said they would not be armed because: 'The Garda Síochána will succeed not by force of arms or numbers, but on their moral authority as servants of the people.' And they did. Think about the courage and wisdom of that decision in a time when armed rebels still controlled parts of the country.

If Gardaí are armed, I will never again speak to a garda unless spoken to. I don't think I'm unusual in this. Up to now, I'd always greet a garda on the street with a smile and chat away with them #ArmedPolice #Varadkar
