The #ArmyLearnsKorean study group now has a Discord! Please comment here if you'd like an invite.
The main aim of the group is to coordinate simple body-doubling sessions where we can study together alone in a way that suits our variously anxious brains.
We'll also be able to use the server to share goals and advice that doesn't fit on Mastodon.
❗️Please note that this space is for #fediarmy friends only at present.❗️
I’ve been super absent from social media, but hi. I’m here because I nearly impulse bought a $1500 flight to Korea—which reminded me that I’ve been seriously slacking on my Korean studies. I think I need to find a structured environment for accountability (and conversation practice), but I’ve yet to find something that works for me. I’ve got resources to learn but not the social pressure to consistently carve out the time (or, rather, to stand up to perfectionism-anxiety*). #ARMYLearnsKorean
@gaychwita there is a tag for people here who are learning or might want to learn Korean #ARMYLearnsKorean #BTS I have not committed to it but I am in the contemplation phase! 😁
Great to see a recovery going on for some of the lovely humans from the BA community today.
On twt, a list of beautiful phrases to post on Weverse, but also useful for learning/practising and just basically feeling better about the world.

I think I’m ready to get back to it, but I’m feeling kind of stuck. Like I’m not sure what to focus on. When I learn a new language, I start with the fundamentals, then common phrases, but then Idk where to go from there.
It started bc I wanted to pronounce the boys’ names correctly. The goal now is to watch a live w/ minimal translation. I need to expand my vocabulary, but where do I start?
Which got me wondering, how does everyone else structure their lessons?
Practicing sino Korean numbers tonight while I wait for Jiminsi to wreck havoc on my life. My brain doesn’t like big numbers in English and with the currency numbers so big I feel like I’m basically doomed without numbers being written for me if I visit Korea.
I’m actually using a resource I built for my baby YouTube channel so I’ll do a reply to this post with that info. #ARMYLearnsKorean

Informative thread by @/ doolsetbangtan on Twitter: “Short Korean expressions you can use during [#BTS Weverse Lives]” #ARMYLearnsKorean I will (hopefully) transcribe some of these tomorrow— quite late here 🥱 https://twitter.com/doolsetbangtan/status/988060684897472514?s=46&t=jkGvappGZD9nqxhZX7b6zg
Irony is me trying to pronounce this sentence: 별로 안 어려워요 [It's not too difficult].
I made a YouTube thing

(I saw an opportunity to apply for content creation coaching (K influencer academy) so I’m trying to develop some of the ideas I’ve shared here with using AAC with studying language. I needed an introduction video and a YouTube channel for my application. I have more content coming soon!)
Not me just figuring out that 마음에 들다, 'to like', [보면 볼수록 마음에 들어요; The more I see it, the more I like it] kinda means 'to enter into one's mind/heart'. I think that's beautiful.

And I meant to mention this web site which makes it pretty easy to learn the Korean keyboard and start using it.

re: learning Korean
I was quite excited last week to get my keyboard set up so that I can easily switch to Korean.
I'm still at the "learning alphabet and constructing syllables" level of the language, and working it on the keyboard is easier because it shows you the construction of the syllables in real time.
Also, because of my tremor I can't write well long hand.
Still working random vocabulary from words I encounter. See the pics.
