#Schubert's #Arpeggione Sonata in a transcription for #clarinet.
This is really beautiful.

The #arpeggione has now even found its way into #jazz & #moderncreative #music: Simon Drappier plays the arpeggione within the band "Quiet Men", which features a few other not-so-usual instruments. The pairing of the arpeggione with the the #bassclarinet (and oriental #zarb for the rhythmic section) is especially soft and #mellow... Warm music for cold winter days! 🦊

Interestingly, since the extant "old" repertory for the #arpeggione is limited to exactly that *one* Schubert piece, reviving the instrument entailed commissioning #newmusic for it: a brand new sound for an old, forgotten instrument! Exciting, no? So here's the #Goya-inspired piece "Le Sommeil de la Raison produit des monstres", written by #composer Laurent Mettraux for #cellist & #arpeggionist Nicolas Deletaille: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqekXQcBDXg

Franz #Schubert, "Arpeggione #Sonata"... on the #arpeggione, part 2 (movements 2 - #Adagio and 3 - #Allegretto), by Nicolas Deletaille with Alain Roudier (#fortepiano #pianoforte):

Franz #Schubert's "Arpeggione" #sonata wasn't composed for cello or viola & modern piano (as it is usually played), but for the #arpeggione, a short-lived musical instrument (like a bowed guitar), and of course #pianoforte... While modern transcriptions are beautiful, it's still a *different* pleasure to hear an #historicallyaccurate rendition by #cellist N. Deletaille, who has been spearheading a timid arpeggione revival in #Belgium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do9UgdfwM5Q
