#AreYouBeingServed? s6e1 (1978) - 5/10
Below average.

1️⃣ 18 months after the end of series 5, the show returns with #JamesHayter replacing #ArthurBrough (who had passed away). His fussy character fails to make much of an impression. He’ll only appear 5 more times after this.

2️⃣ The first half of the episode is basically plotless. It’s just the regulars returning from holiday, and recounting their misadventures.

2️⃣ A shame because the idea driving the story - the team films an advert for the store - is reasonably strong. But the episode feels rushed. It lacks actual jokes. Instead, they are clearly hoping we’ll be amused by the sight of a ridiculous wig on Mrs. Slocombe.

3️⃣ This is the final episode for #ArthurBrough. He does appear one more time, in the film that came out a couple of months after the 5th season ended. But he had sadly passed away by the time the regular series returned, 18 months later.
