#artists - squinting for a sec makes everything higher contrast, so the shadows are more clearly defined areas. Our brain isn’t wired to see shadows as a defined area, but as information about shape and navigating the world safely. So you have to work at seeing them.

If you're stuck, nothing works better than a #2minutesketch of something you can see from where you're sitting. Don't think, just draw. Digital, sharpie, pen, pencil, crayon... anything will do.
Plan to discard this work. It's purpose is to start the engine.
