I'm a sucker for top-down, arcade racers and always have been - Supercars 2, Skidmarks, Thrash Rally, Mashed and many more.
A few years ago, I stumbled across Indie hit, Absolute Drift, and was hooked on its minimalist graphical style and dreamlike drifting perfection.
Fast forward to 2022 and Art of Rally, from the same developer, combined top-down racing with rallying and trapped me again. The combination of minimalist, flat-shaded graphics, deep driving mechanics and unalloyed, classic rally fandom made for gaming nirvana.
Neither of these games were available as boxed games until Serenity Forge created them and, even though I've completed them, it's still nice to have them for my collection and know that the developer might get a little extra money as a result.

I'm not a big gamer by any means but I've played #artofrally to death since it came out. It's got this low-poly #retrowave aesthetic with a soundtrack to match and it's just difficult enough to be engaging, but not frustrating. Playing it is this meditative experience where you find yourself flowing between corners, shifting the weight of your little car around, steering as much with the throttle and brakes as with the front wheels.
It's not a sim; it's not meant to be.
