Caroline Polachek - Pang

I'm not quite sure how to describe this album. It's pop-adjacent, for sure, and has some R&B influences...but it's also pretty arty & eclectic. She's using auto-tune sometimes, but not because she can't sing...she's doing it to achieve a specific effect, similar to how Polica uses a vocorder...but less pronounced. You can tell she has worked to make it sound exactly like she wanted - and it's good.

Water From Your Eyes - Everyone's Crushed

Hard turn into art-pop. I'd call this album 'quirky' but it's more 'unusual and unique', with a very specific-to-them sense of song structure, stuttered, offset rhythms and extensive, purposefully-deployed distortion.

Not entirely sure what's going on with the lyrics all the time, but I'm pretty sure it's bad.

Quiet, flat pressing.

Japan - Ghosts

It was released in edited form in March 1982 as the third single from their 1981 album Tin Drum.

It reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart in April. Although "Ghosts" was their biggest hit, this was not enough to stop the band splitting eight months later. Journalist Todd Hutlock called it "one of the most remarkable and unlikely entries in British chart history."

I've been very much into the new #Sparks album "The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte". My favorite song on it is actually "Take Me For A Ride" (with "Veronica Lake" coming in as a very close second), but I still picked the title track here because its video (feat #CateBlanchett) is just too good to ignore:
