It's been fascinating learning from author Amra Pajalic as to how she's used writing and small business grants to propel her writing career in both fiction and non-fiction. It's also been fun diving into her creative works - love the anthologies she's been a part of too.

I worked with Firstsite's YAK (Young Art Kommunity) this year to create a film celebrating their involvement with Arts Council Collection's National Partners Programme.

One member of the group created this clip using the Animation Desk app, & then animated around the sequence using cut outs & Stop Motion Studio.

@winonakent @patricia_rice @orionkidder @bookstodon If you are launching a #book, it is possible to apply to local & federal #artscouncil for travel support, but they usually don't cover all of your costs. For instance, I did a BC #booktour for the #launch of 'Naming the Shadows' (2019) & applied to the #CanadaCouncil for a travel grant. I received a letter saying I had a successful application, except they ran out of money (so I received nothing). I have to tell you, it was really frustrating!

A few years ago I was in a lovely band with some fantastic singer/songwriters from #NorthCarolina called the bennys. #WesCollins has won multiple #NewFolk awards and both he and #BarryGray were recipients of #NC #ArtsCouncil songwriting fellowships. #RebeccaNewton of course is an NC legend. We never got around to recording much but we did manage to do a fun cover of this #FleetwoodMac tune. I play electric #guitar and rudimentary #PedalSteel on the track.

#Glyndebourne on tour in #Norwich this week, #Liverpool next week. Well worth seeing in any year, but especially after the 51% cut in #ArtsCouncil funding, which goes exclusively to support Education and the Tour.

I go to the #theatre a LOT. Favourites in the last couple of weeks are #TammyFaye at the wonderful #Almeida theatre starring Katie Brayben , music by Elton John. Also #MyNeighbourTotoro #RSC play at the #Barbican. #Handbagged at the #Kiln theatre and #BluesForAnAlabamaSky at the #NationalTheatre. Also #Opera which has been hit hard by the #ArtsCouncil funding announcements. #ItsAwonderfulLife at #ENO is my tip for a great premiere later this month at #ENO. And #Glyndebourne tour

And on a brighter note an evaluation of the work that libraries did to support the Jubilee with £150k or #artscouncil funding - lots of fun events for all ages and developing new community partnerships.

After 12 years of austerity and Tories choking the life out of the #arts, I’m one of many many many people who’s just lost their job because of #ArtsCouncil cuts. So I will only work in a #theatre #writers room until April. It’s really hard right now to imagine I’ll ever get to do anything like it again, since Britain is so oddly hell-bent on erasing every last good thing it has.
Only needed one day in bed, which I attribute to how accustomed we’ve become to the worst case scenario prevailing.

Arts and culture are important, even in a cost of living crisis.
Sad but not surprised to see the South West bottom of the list when it comes to Arts Council funding. The Levelling Up agenda yet again fails to reach the South West
