Hooray?! My Chumps list has reached 500 rows. That is 500 sponsorships by fossil companies for community / sport / arts/ environment organisations in Australia.

It's a lot, but actually, most organisations DON'T receive money from fossil fuel companies.
Unfortunately those that do provide an opportunity for the fossil fuel industry to tell everyone how great and essential they are (they are neither).
I look forward to this list getting shorter one day!

Sunday night - what a great time to go through the New Hope Group's Sustainability Report and get furious.
The Bengalla Mining Company is part of the New Hope Group and mines thermal coal...this has to stop. But they don't wanna, so part of their strategy to keep operating is handing cash to community groups and then taking credit for nice things.
Bengalla coal mine sponsors a Blueheeler Film Festival. The company gets to have a representative on the film judging panel. And get thanked profusely as if there could be no blueheelers and/or film festivals about blueheelers without them.
I've become sadly accustomed to #SportsWashing #ArtsWashing and #GreenWashing generally, but this #BlueyWashing is the limit.

WA Ballet is sponsored by Woodside, a company that is expanding fossil fuels to worsen the climate crisis.
Here's a petition gracefully asking WA Ballet to reconsider this "partnership".
As they say, there's no standing on your tippytoes while dressed like a swan on a dead planet.

Here's an article about Australian arts organizations moving away from fossil fuel sponsorship.
"Comms Declare’s president and founder, Belinda Noble, said the aim of these campaigns is to see national advertising and sponsorship laws for fossil fuel companies become as restrictive as those placed on tobacco companies decades ago, with sporting, arts and cultural organisations being a priority."
That's the dream!
