If you wanna learn how to shade the face quickly, look up make up tutorials! The way they add those darker blotches of make up to blend into parts of the face works similarly to coloring in art. It highlights the areas that they want to pop out more, and creates the illusion of the current ideal beauty trend for faces! That pretty look in your picture is all about the shading to achieve an illusion :)

I'm going to draw a 3/4 page comic again for a commission, so I decided to focus a little on drawing the faces and its planes again to warm up a bit.Since I've only been drawing creatures and landscapes lately 😅 I found this tutorial to be a bit helpful. Not the best explanations, but the philosophy is important. I can recommend to pause the video and draw along, its a very educative process.

This is a really good tutorial on understanding values. I've seen many like these, but this one struck a cord with me. It's for oilpainting but it's valid for any medium. Tldr: use shadows, midtones and highlights to paint all values in large distinct blocks with sharp edges. Finally blending those edges gives a very realistic result. Paint like a sculptor, creating all the rough shapes first and polish at the end.
