Not gonna lie, the most useful skill I picked up in the last two months was setting up a #QEMU install to test my custom kernels (and some made up hardware on the side).

I wrote it for #Linux #Mint, then redid it on #Asahi. It worked pretty much identically.

Yes, sadly there is no #NixOS support for your Mac right now. Maybe #Asahi efforts will change that.

@jade Yes, but only a used one. I refuse to buy any new #Apple computers as long as they remain non-repairable and non-upgradable from the factory. #Asahi Linux enables these Macs to have second and third lives instead of ending up as e-waste.

I had to move my setup to an M1 Max MacbookPro.

I installed #Asahi and it went incredibly smoothly. Insane battery life is the biggest pleasant surprise.

I also followed https://gist.github.com/m-bers/5303251fb032be72b2aac7ffde234d1a to bootstrap an ARM64 QEMU install and i managed to boot a custom kernel on it. Easier than i expected.

I can keep hacking now, brb with a blog post about things. Technical, this time.

For everyone who, just like me, was speculating about Asahi joining the Fedora bandwagon, it's now official! As much as I appreciated Arch and Pacman, as someone already running Fedora and RHEL on other machines, this is certainly very convenient.
