A tiny asco fungus on a rotten rush (Juncus sp.) stem A triumph of modern cameras, lenses, software and nature. Oh and opticians, who supplied my glasses so I could see the thing in the first place.

Slim pickings for the field naturalist with thick frost on everything at the moment, but this was a nice find at East Bilney Common - the recently named discomycete #fungus Sclerencoelia fraxinicola on a rotting Ash stem. A smaller relative of the Spring Hazel Cup. #fungi #ascomycete #mycota

Look at these lovely fungi from the wood at the bottom of wor street. I was going to pop down for some quality macro shots but gale-driven rains too much. One's Coral Spot. No iea on the other.
