Ask a Medievalist has a new episode out on graffiti--mostly what was found at Pompeii, but also a little bit about the Vikings, who somehow got everywhere. Check it out in your favorite podcast app or on our website.

We are recording a short podcast on the British Museum (and other museums) and its (their) problems tonight and I'm going to try to get through it without talking too much about Indiana Jones or that James Acaster bit about "finders keepers, shut up!"
I will probably fail.
Hey #AskAMedievalist fans, we have dropped our new episode, part two of our series on drugs in honor of Em's new novel, Dionysus in Wisconsin. We talk about ritual uses for psychedelics from the bronze-age Mediterranean to the Andes to Hunter S. Thompson crossing the desert (only kind of on that last one). Link below, or it's already in your favorite podcast app.

If you've been sadly awaiting a new episode of Ask a Medievalist, wait no longer! In celebration of Em's recent novel, we talk about Dionysus and drugs in the ancient world.

With my co-host Jesse teaching in Greece for the month, the podcast workflow is thrown off. Proud to say that instead of being productive, I am working up ukulele versions of popular songs that I will play for no one ever.
This fortnight's episode of #AskAMedievalist, part two of our series on obscenity, is about butts! (Mostly in art and literature.) Do you need more of a pitch than that? From York Minster Cathedral to Chaucer to butt trumpets in marginalia, we have a lot to say. Check it ooooout: http://askamedievalist.com/2023/04/26/episode-66-medievally-bootylicious/

We posted a new episode of #AskAMedievalist on obscenity, including a surprisingly timely (given that we recorded this in 2021) discussion of book banning (and then we talk about phallus trees and vulva badges, so): http://askamedievalist.com/2023/04/01/episode-65-i-know-it-when-i-see-it/

I've been listening to the album "Come on feel the Illinoise" for the first time after I found the song "Casimir Pulaski Day" following a discussion of Casimir Pulaski on #AskAMedievalist. And it's a great album! But I wind up walking around singing "goldenrod and the 4H stone/the things I brought you/when I found out you had cancer of the bone," which is a fucking depressing lyric.
I forgot to post about this, but episode 64 of #AskAMedievalist (Fight Knights!) is out in the world. Chivalry, tournaments, Arthurian legend, and other fun stuff! Get it at the link below, or wherever fine #podcasts are downloaded.

I was really tired and forgot to post this when it went up, but this week we have the first of two episodes on #chivalry over on #AskAMedievalist.

#AskAMedievalist episode 62: "Tapestries Not by Carole King" is now live! We've got all your major tapestries covered: tapestries of the Tang dynasty, the work of 12th c. weaver/artisan Zhu Kerou, the Huari, the Lady and the Unicorn, cartoons by Raphael, and of course, the Bayeux Tapestry, which ISN'T REALLY A TAPESTRY but we talk about it anyway because we're cool like that.

We ordered some postcards with our lovely #AskAMedievalist logo on them. If you want one, drop me a note. Or find Dr. Jesse at Kalamazoo.

New #AskAMedievalist! Em and Jesse talk about the 2021 film The Green Knight. Jesse does coherent literary analysis and Em watches too much costume history YouTube. Also much Arthurian legend. #Medievalists #Histodon #Podcast

In the most recent podcast episode, I made a very bad pun about sumptuary laws. A notably bad pun, I even thought so when I was editing it. And someone (to whom I am not related) posted on our FB page that they thought it was hilarious!
So in conclusion, 1/ I am super funny (tell my kids), and 2/ three years in, we are finding, or starting to find, an audience who appreciates us.
Also, if you're amused, tell a creator you liked their thing. It means a lot.
