Folks, it's that time of the year again....
... when I dig out #AssaultCube Reloaded and start #freegaming again :D

Just kidding. Happy Thanksgiving for those who celebrate it!
Torn between the choice of continue #FreeSoftware #gaming or trying some oldies-but-goodies cracked ones that I can play through #Wine.
Don't get me wrong, though. I love games like #OpenArena or #assaultcube, but somehow they still can't quite emulate the gameplay of something like CS 1.6... I feel like this is some sort of betrayal idk

How did your experience and goals with computing change once you switched to #Linux? Do you (also) find yourself craving for old computers to try Linux on?
If so, welcome to the Paradox of Computing Power!

Featuring #ACReloaded, a modern adaptation of the classic #AssaultCube FPS.

#AssaultCube and its improvement ACReloaded
#OpenArena and the similar #Nexuiz FPS
#Ravenfield (not through steam)
And many others that I showcase in my #peertube channel:

Come to think of it, the #cube engine (core of FPS games) is quite impressive in terms of its derivatives it has spawned. It has powered or based the following games among others:
- #Sauerbraten (aka Cube2, cartoon-like shooter)
- #AssaultCube (and derivatives like #acreloaded)
- #RedEclipse (high-end graphics, Halo-like)
Talk about an example of the power of #freesoftware when it comes to adapting and improving things!

Luckily, there aren't that many external dependencies required to build the thing. According to the wiki, the (Debian) packages are:
build-essential
libsdl1.2debian
libsdl-image1.2
libopenal1
libsdl1.2-dev
libsdl-image1.2-dev
libopenal-dev
libvorbis-dev
Now to find their equivalents in #alpinelinux (looks like most don't have the `lib` prefix)
So there's no package for #assaultcube in #alpinelinux, guess that means I got to compile it then. Good weekend project, I think, especially when I think about some of these C++ required libraries have to play with the musl stuff.
Otherwise, there's always AssaultCube Reloaded in Arch!
