If you see someone with an official assistance dog you do not approach the dog without first consulting the owner.

They are working dogs who concentrate on alerting their owner to dangers, by going straight up to the dog and petting them you are breaking the bond between the assistance dog and its owner.

With the exception of blind dogs which are NEVER to be approached, you can ask an owner politely if you may give the dog some attention. Do not get offended and/or angry if the #AssistanceDog's owners says "No".

Ah, my #HearingDog Juno decided she wanted to smell gorgeous whilst we were out on a walk and rolled in several #FoxTurds (*Eye Roll*) ......... she then gets grumpy in the shower afterwards followed by being a total diva being dried and brushed, "Don't you DARE touch my paws!".....

She's now doing zoomies around the house at 300mph.

Love her to bits, the gorgeous little bundle of, thankfully freshly showered, fluff.

Trip to Sainsbury's today. Reuben has learned that if he looks at the food and then looks away he gets a treat (he's being rewarded for seeing the food but choosing not to sniff it). So he deliberately looks at the food very quickly and then looks at me expectantly... he's going to get whiplash at this rate 😅

Having a young male golden retriever is fun until all he wants to do is sniff, pee, lick the ground and chase things on his walks. I sometimes feel like we’ve done no training at all when he’s wild like this! Luckily we’re going to meet our trainer this morning on our #AssistanceDog programme

What's a thing you'd like to know or ask about service/assistance dogs (or other animals)? I know a lot about training doggos, U.S. laws, and a bit about B.C. Canada laws and even less about Ireland and Britain laws :P

@jonlawrence Good luck with that. Our #AssistanceDog who’s fully trained-tends to pre-warn us, IF it’s not safe to travel on a bus. By that, our dog senses if her boy will be uneasy on the journey. So we wait, re-calm ourselves & try another bus. 🦮
