Assyria was the world’s first empire, dominating the ancient Near East for over a thousand years. But how did it rise and fall? A new book, The World’s First Empire, by historian Paul Kriwaczek, reveals the secrets of Assyria’s success and failure. The book traces the history of Assyria from its origins to its collapse and examines its legacy for modern civilization.

Armenian refers to the denial of the genocide against (already systematically discriminated) Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians committed by the Ottoman Empire under the rule of the Young Turks from 1915 to 1918. Turkey denies that the Ottomans were responsible for the killing of one million Armenians during World War I, arguing that:

• The death toll has been inflated;
• Ethnic violence killed Turks as well;
• Deportations and death marches were simply "temporary relocation" of Armenians for "security reasons" (i.e. the pesky Armenians were being overtly "rebellious", "hostile", or pro-Russian); and
• The Ottoman leadership didn't intend to exterminate the Armenians, so it can't be called a "genocide."

In 734 BC, a powerful Arab Queen challenged a regional empire. Samsi led the Qedar, a tribe rich from the south Arabian spice trade, in battle against the Neo-Assyrian King Tiglath Pileser III. In defeat, Samsi was captured but not killed. Instead she was restored to her throne as a Neo-Assyrian vassal. In fact, she and her descendants, Yatie, Te-elkhunu, and Tabua, continued to rule as Queens of Qedar through the next four Assyrian kings.

Sargon II (716 BC) records subduing the Arabs of Thamud, Ibadidi, Marsimani & 'Ephah. These Arabs are then deported to Samaria (Palestine). The Ibadidi are not mentioned in any other source. The Bible records 'Ephah as a Son of Midian. The Marsimani were known also by the Romans.
