I just learned that Disney is releasing a min-series about Atatürk, one of the founders of modern #Turkey.

I have no issues with this except that according to rumors it's going to be a glorifying series.

Yes, Atatürk the same person who organized a genocide (#ArmenianGenocide) and multiple massacres (#Greeks, #Assyrians).

It’s like releasing a mini-series glorifying Hitler.

Reading #history and seeing how #Assyrians went from being an #empire that humiliated #Arabs and their #deities over and over, and expelled them and relocated them at wish. To their current status as a #marginalized #minority among Arabs.

I have been thinking about the #etymology of #Arab. There are many theories as to what it means including an exonym meaning westerners, because we were living to the west of #Assyrians.

But lately I think there’s a possible etymology no one seem to have considered.

In #Mehri, a language spoken in #Oman and #Yemen. There’s a cognate of Arab that means to speak. Considering that Arabs refer to non-Arabs as Ajam literally mute, it is a possibility that Arab means “person I can understand”.
