The first of many of these puzzling objects was unearthed almost three centuries ago, and we still donât know what they were for.

âAdd the two Aston swings together and the result is a 13.75 per cent collapse in the Liberal Party vote in less than a year.
âReplicate that, or anything near that, and the Liberals are consigned to historyâs dustbin in the state that produced the partyâs greatest hero, Robert MenziesâŚ
âDutton admitted the decision to vote âNoâ on the Voice was his personal viewâŚâ
I hope thatâs the end of them.

Result in #aston by-election is strong evidence against my belief that Albanese government would only last one term. In particular, I expected, as did LNP, that govt would get the blame for falling real wages (aka Cost of Living). That hasn't happened. I will plan on a more detailed reassessment #auspol.
"A better reading of the Aston carnage is to see it as the logical conclusion of an ideological experiment or rightward shift in politics that has its roots in the Howard era. It was, after all, John Howard who conceived the modern culture wars and politics of division that manifests in the Liberal Party of today, and which long gripped the heart of the nation."

#aston #auspol Guy Rundle from Crikey writes a decent summary of the Liberal train smash.
But though theyâre losing the battles, he rightly points out the Liberals have won the politics.
If you look at what Labor has really become you see this. Yes they are a better more responsible govt, but theyâre not going to rebuild local industry, AUKUS aside, or remove social inequality. Those policies that perpetuate it are still there
Hey had a phone explosion/melt down event, well not quite but lost my passwords and so on and so on, actually managed to get back on here with my extinct elephant mates, pretty sure I have not been missed but I'd just like to say hi ya all.
#Aston #Dutton #Meltdown, I love Australian youth growing up that get gaslighting and blatant bull shit and rotting by by governments.

âI think the Liberal party needs to stop ideological dog-whistling & return to centrist Liberal values.
You've got ideological culture warriors who would rather we lose than make space for a diversity of views, & that's a problem,â said Tasmanian Liberal MP Bridget Archer
Listening on Radio National this morning to some Liberal Party apparatchiks (including ex-PM Turnbull) discussing the "direction" the party should take after its loss in the Aston by-election. Quite frankly the best thing they could do is all die quietly. We don't need their type here. The ALP has many faults indeed, but as bad as they can be, the Libs can always out-do them in sheer nastiness. Not to mention their most blatant and disgraceful economic mis-management.
Michael Rowland interviewing Keith Wolahan on breakfast tv (one of only 2 surviving federal #Liberals in Melbourne). Excellent interviewing, Wolahan woeful. A repeat of Dutton yesterday: they can only offer up Liberal 'values'...
Values?? After Robodebt, sports rorts, secret ministries, branch stacking, nazis, and a host of other scandals? #Aston #values
#AHeadwithTwoEyes @twoeyehead Peter Dutton proves that repeating the same line over and over again, at some point it'll be correct. #Aston #AstonByElection #insiders #auspol

The Liberal commentator on ABCâs coverage of the #Aston election, said at one point that he heard people were calling the Liberal Party, the ânasty partyâ.
I think he may have misheard.
>Victoria continues to be difficult terrain for the Liberal Party. Its state branch is dysfunctional, and the factional infighting has soiled its brand
Lots & lots & LOTS of "all the usual suspects" political journos have been making this same point for yonks. Last night on #ABC #aston coverage, Kos & Tony also made it.
I wonder: what goes thru the minds of all those #RWNJ religo-fascists each time they get this same feedback? đ¤ˇââď¸
'...The Victorian premier said if youâre not willing to accept that life is not easy for transgender people, âthen donât pretend that youâve got anything to offer other than your own insipid, nasty little version of bigotryâ. '
At essence, it's quite simple: the Liberal Party have been consistently warned over the last decade (or more) that they were soon to hit a demographic wall.
They have.
They have proven to be unprepared.
And seemingly have no way to prepare.
