Loved watching Starship go up. Also enjoyed watching it blow up: apparently I'm still 6 at heart. ;) More seriously, it seems like a lot of newer multistage rocket launches lately have had stage separation problems, which is always fatal (& if it *isn't* fatal, the range safety officer should be scrambling for the self-destruct button). One might think separation would be a solved problem, but I guess that's why it's rocket science. #space #rockets #multistage #separation #astronautics

New Project Turning Dead Taxidermy Birds Into Drones 2023.

Researchers are exploring ways to use dead animal bodies to re-engineer them as drones, just like in a SCI-FI movie, but it is not a movie.

The study lead by Mostafa Hassanalian and his colleagues at the public university New Mexico Tech , whom presented their project at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ SciTech Forum in January, 2023.

On January 12, 1907, lead Soviet rocket engineer and spacecraft designer during the Space Race Sergei Korolev was born. Korolev is regarded by many as the “father of practical astronautics“. He was involved in the development of the R-7 Rocket, Sputnik 1, launching the dogs Laika, Belka and Strelka and the first human being, Yuri Gagarin, into space.

On January 10, 1989, Soviet engineer Valentin Petrovich Glushko passed away. Glushko was the principal Soviet designer of rocket engines during the Soviet/American Space Race. He worked with renowned rocket designer Sergey Korolyov.
