The Sky Guide app (I think it used to be called Sky Safari) is one of my all time favorite astronomy apps. Live compass, #satellite tracking, #constellation info, notifications of #astronomical events, and tons of neat info on everything space and star related.

The Skystone is a #glacial #erratic boulder in Bonney Lake, #Washington state. It was deposited approximately 13,000 years ago. It has over 20 pits pounded into its surface, presumably by members of the #Puyallup tribe. There's a part of me that's always wanted to be able to #travel the #universe, but in an #Earth-like timeframe, not an #astronomical one.

But there've been recent #movies and images from #soacecraft that, even more than Dave's end in #2001ASpaceOdyssey, have added a level of fear that has really dampened my previous enthusiasm.

It's the #navigation that I realize is overwhelming, even just in our #SolarSystem. #Space agencies are amazing.

On June 5, 2012 the world was treated to one of the rarest sights in astronomy, the #TransitofVenus which was an #astronomical #phenomena.Venus passes directly between the #sun and earth and in the second image you can see the little black dot near top right of the sun which is Venus.
