There exist reasons to dislike #PETA (their autism kerfuffle, their general negative-attention-is-good-attention attitude, etc.), but criticism of their shelters is not one of them.
Honestly hatred of PETA has been #astroturfed to hell and back. Beware anything you read about them online (including this toot, I guess).
One thing that I've been waiting to see in the discussion of the #NYTLetter is discussion from #Librarians about the role #Library subs play in funding the #NYTimes coverage of #Trans people. This seems especially pertinent as #Libraries have been the front lines for over a year as #astroturfed orgs have attacked out collections, patrons, and events. Our libraries are directly tied to this on both ends and we need more conversations about this :transgender_flag: 📚📰📣

7. Marlene Laruelle & Kevin Limonier (2021) Beyond “hybrid warfare”: a digital exploration of Russia’s entrepreneurs of influence, Post-Soviet Affairs
Although this paper isn't linked to norm literature per se, one could reframe the concept of individual 'entrepreneurs of influence' as norm entrepreneurs, some of whom cultivate / bankroll *#astroturfed epistemic communities*
