#retrocomputing As a pre-teen I worked odd jobs and saved to buy an Apple//e and eventually did with help from my dad. But before that he had a tiny catalog storefront (remember those?) and brought in an #Atari800 as a floor demo. He took it home for a while. I bought the assembler cart, got/borrowed books, and learned to make demos with POKEY and ANTIC. I didn't save any of it.
I'd love to get my hands on an original but I hope this FPGA-based recreation actually ships

A monster of a machine for a kid to hack out some code, music and graphics on.
My #Atari800XL had a color thermal printer, a tape drive and more screen colors than you could shake your #C64, #AppleII swapped pallettes at let alone the 4 available on the IBM PC at the time.

The RAM brace I had printed for my Atari 800 fits perfectly. It's the one available on thingiverse. #Atari800

I ordered custom 3D printed parts on the internet for the first time yesterday. I didn't realize it was so cheap/easy. I got a RAM brace for my #Atari800, and case tabs to replace the broken ones in my #C64. I know I'm way behind the times, but it's wild that you can have custom plastic parts manufactured cheaply in extremely low quantities. I'm thinking about how this will impact my gift giving, as well as retrocomputing.
This cable from eBay works as a great breakout cable to get luma/chroma/audio from an Atari 800 computer to feed into a 1702 or similar monitor. It's around $11 shipped to the US (takes a couple weeks to arrive).

White/yellow/black breakouts correspond to luma/chroma/audio signals. Also, I picked up a TAC-2 controller, which is really nice.

I couldn't find a way to run Atari800MacX (Atari 8 bit emulator for MacOS) in NTSC mode with proper 4:3 aspect ratio. It seem married to this weird wide-screen, square pixel thing that seems to be unavoidable these days. :/ #Atari800
a little late, but check out my (not quite finished, but partially sticker-bombed) #atari800 :P
Wherein I play what might be the most absurd adventure from 1982 yet, the adventures of James Brand, where he needs to escape from a human pinball machine, save the President from assassination, and ... buy a hot dog?
