A neighbor lent me a surfboard to use and I went out at sunrise. The waves were a little better today than the last time I took the wave storm out however I’m still bad at this. I did paddle into some waves but didn’t get up so I’ll take that as progress. #surfing #oceancitynj #atlanticocean

We went for a walk on the beach this evening and encountered all kinds of these little ghost crabs. Big or small, they were all over the beach, going in and out of their little burrows. A bonus sighting was a cool sandcastle #crab #wildlife #atlanticocean

Here in Northeast #USA we think of Northern Europe as our lateral equivalents.
Not true.
Draw a line out from the latitude of New York City, what do you hit?
Portugal.
Northern Europe is counterintuitively (for Americans) over from *Northern* #Canada. Great #Britain lines up with Labrador, North of Newfoundland. Pretty far North and... so why isn't Great Britain cold like Labrador?
That's due to the AMOC.
Think of it (vast oversimplification) as a gyre of water turning the Atlantic in a big circle. The current shoves warm water far North along Europe's Atlantic coastline. And reciprocally, it pushes cold water down to New England.
It also explains why Britain is famously foggy and rainy.
So what's going to happen if the AMOC shuts down?
Northwest #Europe will freeze, and New England will cook.

Standing in the sand on Miami Beach was a feast for the senses and a high point in my life. A rainstorm was coming and it would be raining that night. This was my view in the late afternoon. The smell of the air and the sound of the waves was tremendous!

The soothing sound of the ocean waves even when a storm is approaching. I loved the light here as a storm moved in at Sandbridge Beach, VA. There were two boys still playing in the surf, but moments later, lightning struck and the beach became empty.
