I’ve never before felt anything but camaraderie from fellow #audax riders. Yesterday a group of 5-6 who obviously felt that I shouldn’t be faster than them because I don’t look like a ‘cyclist’ (I’m 1.87m and 95kg), repeatedly caught me, blocked me in and slowed down; one nearly taking my front wheel out in the process, after which we had a frank exchange of views. Discretion being the better part of valour I made an unscheduled cafe stop and never saw them until the end.

Back on planet #audax tomorrow after an 11 week break. In a moment of uncharacteristic sanity, I’ve checked into a nearby hotel rather than add 70km to the 300km ride. #biketoot #cycling #AUK

Yesterday: 100km audax from Sheffield to Newstead Abbey (Augustinian priory established c.1165, rebuilt late C13, extensively remodeled C19 - family home of the poet Lord Byron). Heat (28 deg C), hills and headwind made for a chewy first half and I never really bounced back. Is there a name for *that* tipping point on a bike ride, where you stop looking forward to it/enjoying it, and start wanting it to be over? Whatever, it came fairly early yesterday.

Just ridden around Derby and cycled a couple of miles with Neil who has covered ~1,425km of the #bristolglasgowbristol #audax and looking great for a finish tomorrow. He stopped for a kebab in Allenton.

#audax update: the official record will state that it took me 24h45m for the 400km but in reality it was about 20. Got back at 5 and decided a few hours in a comfy bed 4km from the finish was better than sitting on a station concourse waiting for the cafe to open 😁 #BikeTooter #cycling
