Feedback from strangers is one thing, but hearing from people I know is always mildly terrifying.
Every audiobook is a one-woman show: just me, alone in the sound booth, doing all the voices.
And a lot of my friends are in the arts & know their stuff about performance, too.
So it's all very vulnerable.
I'm delighted & hugely relieved he enjoyed it!

What a great fucking idea, Apple! Let's take authors out of the equation next! We can all listen to AI reading stories written by AI and watch movies and shows that are CGI and listen to music that is written by AI! Think of all that tedious creativity that will save!

I assume the publishers are just taking a moment to breathe after the rush to get books and audiobooks out for Tinselmas.

In the closing stages of proofing of Dracula for my podcast Bayley's Bookshelf - Great Audiobooks. This is the end of the tough part. I find mastering pretty chill as most of it is automated by the chains I made in Reaper and iZotope RX7 so it's mostly babysitting with some interventions as I listen through it all. I've found Dracula to be a challenging read due to phonetic dialogue, Van Helsing's voice and the language being quite archaic - even compared to The War of the Worlds (season 1 of Bayley's Bookshelf) which was published only one year later. Just 6 chapters to proof now and I'm pumped full of Irn Bru Energy and German electronicore. Let's slay this monster!
