I’m parsing web pages for #AudioLocker, my everything-to-podcast project. From three examples of very normal web pages I’ve concluded that I cannot use em in its intended semantic function as emphasis. At all.

I think this is partially due to the success of #Markdown, the smug techie equivalent of a WYSIWYG editor. It really flattens the complexity of semantic markup into how it’s rendered, an enormous loss of variety.

RIP the #SemanticWeb.
