This guy gets it. Whenever I'm looking to buy an album from the 80's or older nowadays, I always consult Dr Loudness War to see what the scores are. Then I often go to the Steve Hoffman Forums and see what people say about the best release of the album I'm searching for.

Anyone have good alternatives for #roon ?

I’ve had a subscription with them for 6 years now. Kinda getting tired of the cost:benefit ratio.

What I do like: Metadata, organization of the library contents, decent UI, mobile app support (Roon more than ARC, but ARC is ok)

What I don’t really need or like: Remote playing (controlling other speakers in the house), paying Tidal if I want good recommendations, kinda bloated and slow app

I’ve used plenty of #vlc , #foobar, #clementine / #strawberry, even #amarok back in the day

I’m really looking for any music solution that’s a little bit of a media manager w/metadata, especially if it can manage all that on a server.

I don’t mind paying for services, I’m just tired of the Roon bills on top of streaming services too.

Like - I want less than Roon but more than VLC.

Any recommendations?
