Lots of people I know in Melbourne sick with “not-covid” at the moment. Some testing Neg on rapid tests, some not testing, various symptoms, generally runny nose, some sore throats, some fatigue, some fogginess ..
Doubt anyone knows what’s going on. Try to stay safe.
Vale Mary-Louise McLaws.
May her name be a blessing.
I admired Mary-Louise McLaws for her advocacy for public health and skilful science communication — bringing her expertise as a world renowned epidemiologist to everyday Australians during the worst times of the pandemic.

New strain fuels COVID-19 case surge.
A new variant of COVID-19 dubbed Eris (EG.5.1) is spreading in nations as distant as India, the UK and US and in some areas has led to a 100% surge in cases.
The World Health Organsiation (WHO) began monitoring the EG.5.1. variant, derived from Omicron, on July 19.

@DenisCOVIDinfoguy am I reading this right? 8000 deaths predicted in Victoria in the 12 months from October 2022. How can that not be causing alarm or at least some serious changes to our public health response now!#AusCOVID #auscovid19

Mike Honey posts excellent stats for Australia.
It’s not working anywhere else in the world. Let’s try it here.

Hope ATAGI don’t wait too long….
Overnight VicEmergency issued a warning for the ambulance service & effective today the Vic Health System Response has been escalated to Stage 3.
21.4% ⬆️ in reported COVID cases in the last week & 29.9% ⬆️ in hospitalisations, extreme staff shortage due to illness and furlough.
So HCWs who are well, will now head into the end of the year having leave cancelled and continuing to put themselves at risk in the rising cases and hospitalisations with even diminished hospital protections and waning Vax.
I’m weeping with fury.
