The sale price was too good to be true and transpires it had dodgy flammable cladding and the  balconies on the 2 floors directly above their garden, were in risk of falling off pretty much at any time... Their solicitor strongly advised against buying. Of course.

But then theres nothing to stop a loaded-up cash buyer just snapping up a deal and renting out an unsafe overpriced property to unsuspecting tenants?

We have to have RWC to sell cars.
We need Safe To Occupy Certificates for homes. Don't we?

@llament Yes to most of the above but no to a blanket "cutting taxes". Jeez ppl are so thick about this.

Tax revenue into the treasury goes ultimately to pay for things like hospitals schools aged care workers and any workers in govt sector. Taxes can also be used punatively eg on FFuels to stop ppl using them (eg transition to renewables at the petrol pump) and for taxing big businesses that pollute rivers and land.

And most obviously in the country of "helping your national mates" taxes = supporting ppl doing it hard eg flood and bushfire victims. Without taxes none of that happens.

What treasury funds shouldn't be spent on is AUKUS, tax breaks for the already wealthy (Stage 3 tax cuts) and bailing out banks that act irresponsibly.

And more tax revenue needs to come from (a) the 1% who are ripping us all off and (b) the international corporations who operate on our turf but aren't paying us to do so.

@chrisbloom Speaking as one who lives in Sukkar's seat of Deakin in eastern Melbourne (one of only 2 Lib seats in Melbourne), I can say i believe & hope his days are numbered too.

They shifted the borders between Deakin and Menzies to maximise the Lib vote. We had to have a recount and it was a razor thin result for Sukkar. I wore black for a week.

All he put on his mail box fliers was that he would build carparks at our local station. Again. Seriously WTF ?!?!
And as always covered the flier with dozens of photos of him with locals. He likes his photo shoots.

On every level the Liberal Party is a defunct relic. They deserve to shrivel up in the sun-baked political wasteland along with Nationals, One Nation, Clive Palmer's crew and Family First.

@spinopsys I also heard a very interesting interview on ABC saying that with the nuclear subs we can effectively take any war to the doorstep of a hostile nation, a long way from home and supplies. *They* then have the upper hand with *their* military capability on their own doorstep so it makes any confrontation easier for them and harder for us.

And seriously, IF we are saying that the hostile nation is China, are they really going to be scared off by a couple of Aus nuclear subs in 30yrs time. By 2053 the Chinese will be laughing at the 2023 tech that built them.

Maybe not:

1/ If China is a threat to Aus why are we trading with them SOOOO massively and extensively? If Xi is a rogue dictator should we not find alternative markets? (That was surely Merkel's mistake with Germany trading with Russia)

2/ If AUKUS is crap, (and it DOES look definitely dodgy) why didn't all those ex PMs shout something louder when Morrison and Dutton set the deal up and reneged on the French deal?

Any idiot knows you don't take all the family savings and lock in spending on an item you won't get for 30 yrs...

Tech will have moved on by then. The AUKUS deal will undoubtedly be a load of junk by 2053.
