Later this week Australians are going to be asked to swear allegiance to an unelected hereditary billionaire "king" who lives on the other side of the world and neither sounds nor acts like the vast majority of us, and who makes no pretence about being there for England first. And to a "queen" who gets to be called that only because she is now with the man who carried out an extra-marital affair with her (not being called "queen consort" which is what previous convention dictated).

All of this in a "coronation" costing millions and which in reality is a religious ritual of the Church of England, to which fewer than 10% of Australians even nominally belong.

How can ANY Australian possibly support this?

Growing up we were over-saturated with images of The Queen. There was a framed image in every classroom & office. Until the death there still was in local govt Council Chambers & in houses of State & Federal govt. Early primary school we still sang & played the durge 'God Save The Queen'.

Australia firmly identified itself as a Colony of the British Empire, especially in NSW.

A firm message is being sent around by not having Charles on the $5 note.

It gives some hope & horrified others scared of change, scared to cut the apron strings.

The time is NOW to assert our independance, before we get too entrenched in the propaganda.

#AusRepublic with the PM role as also Head of State. There is no need to replicate an outdated model.
