One of the things I love about living surrounded by bush and having a garden of varied native plants is we have thriving communities of small birds that live alongside us. I have a shallow birdbath sitting on my worm farm in the middle of my herb and veggie garden and every day I watch these little guys from my kitchen window (Willies and wrens seen sunning on the bamboo shade platform). It’s breeding season and we have new floofs on the wing including Superb fairywrens, Willie wagtails, Barred finches and White-plumed honeyeaters. Dozens of callistemons have just finished flowering around the garden and the summer flowering eucalypts are doing their thing, which as brought at least 5 other species of honeyeater into feed. It’s been very noisy. That’s just a handful of the species I see daily. It is a special place.
Cassowary spotted at the waters edge of the Barron River in Kuranda, a mountain village near Cairns, Queensland. He was majestic, although a bit too close for my liking. #cassowary #birds #birdsOfMastadon #aussiebirds #cairns #queensland #tropicalQld #tropicalqueensland
