The Cobb County Courier is setting up shop in a cowork space in downtown Austell.

Austell Georgia is mainly here because of the intersection of two rail lines.

The buildings here are around the corner from a row of similar buildings along Veterans Memorial Highway, a busy major road.

These building face what was apparently once a public roadway, converted into a parking area bordered by a roadway with roundabouts.

Austell, in my opinion, has a better chance of restoring a sense of #urban cohesion than the adjacent newly incorporated (and much larger) City of Mableton.

Austell maintained significant remnants of its late-19th/early-20th Century downtown.

In Mableton that town center was obliterated, so creating a downtown would have to be done from scratch, and uphill against modern parking requirements, setback regulations, etc.

One of the challenges I've noticed for downtown Austell, and the Create Austell folks have definitely noticed, is that two active major railroads separate sections of downtown.

This seems charming at first, but after about the fourth or fifth interruption during a personal conversation or phone call the downside of the noise becomes obvious. #Austell #CobbCounty #transportation #trains #sustainability
