On January 26, I had the opportunity to speak with Mayor of Moonee Valley Council Pierce Tyson, Cr. Rose Iser and Moonee Valley City Council CEO Helen Sui, about Indigenous healing and how we can be more sensitive to our First Nations people on January 26.
We also discussed a local project I have been wanting and proposing for several years and Mayor Tyson was gracious enough to invite me to send him my proposal, in the hope that he may be able to advocate for it on my behalf (watch this space). Both Cr. Iser and Ms. Sui were encouraged by my enthusiasm to create local change for indigenous peoples, and were incredibly supportive and enthusiastic.
I also had an opportunity to speak with Niddrie Greens candidate Declan McGinness, where we discussed how collaboration not politics, will see the most positive changes for our communities come to fruition.
I thank all of these wonderful people for their warm hospitality and genuine care in what I had to say.

I am in no way against celebrating AUSTRALIA DAY - we should of course have a day to celebrate who we are and what we stand for. However, I believe our National day should not be celebrated on January 26. Some think it is UN-Australian to not celebrate on January 26; I believe that to do so is to celebrate genocide.
I love this country very much and and I want to celebrate this beautiful land we call home. I want to celebrate it together with our Indigenous Aunties and Uncles. But I do not believe that we should celebrate our National pride on a day that our 'ancestors' committed genocide; a day that brings so much pain, trauma and distress to so many.
Celebrating Australia Day today is like having a beer, wearing facepaint and generally making merry to celebrate the holocaust. If that thought made you sick, then think how our First Nations people feel about us celebrating Australia Day on January 26!

I write to you from Wurundjeri Country in Naarm. I stand with our First Nations People. I support an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. I support changing the date of Australia Day. I acknowledge this land was stolen and it's sovereignty never ceded.
Will you join me in being a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people?

Why Would It Be So Bad To Abandon Australia Day?

Apropos of nothing I vote for #AustraliaDay to be on 29th February. Which will reduce its unpopularity by 75% and save heaps on fireworks too
3/3 1986 the Australia Act was passed, officially making Britain a ‘foreign power’ Although we still have the monarchy (as a ball and chain). We still have something to celebrate!
Happy (potential) Australia Day! 🥰😍💋🎉❤️🎈😘🥳
Though I believe many Eu-Aussies are sympathetic to the Invasion Day movement, please also remember that the 26th of Jan also celebrates us as convicts - or slaves, in other words - and forever subservient to Britain.
We’re not!
Celebrate what freedoms we’ve obtained!

Went to a belated #AustraliaDay event where they offered some great #Australian #desserts including #pavlova and #lamingtons. Best of all they also handed out #TimTams and #Vegemite because… #Australia.

A bit of light hearted humor news.
We quizzed 100 Australians on the significance of 26th Jan. Here’s what they said …

Learnt that many <40year old Aussies already don't do #AustraliaDay due to it being #InvasionDay.
So no Australia Day parties for them. And an Invasion Day party would be yucky.
Instead they're tuning into triple j and have Top 100 parties.
(triple j is so cool that they don't do capitals.)

Nothing to celebrate
On 28 January 2023 we blockaded, for as long as we could, an official “australia day” (better known as “Invasion Day”) party, being held at the Lightbox nightclub in London.
This event (together with everything it represents) is beyond fucked up. The party is a deeply disre

Such a good long weekend for the Australia Day public holiday, going camping near Lake Eildon with friends. It's rare to have a campsite within a national park allow dogs, so we were grateful that Charlie could come with us and get in touch with nature.
Spending 35deg+ days near a refreshing creek is something I can definitely get used to.
